The CW has yet to make any sort of official announcement regarding their plans for "Jane The Virgin," but if Gina Rodriguez's recent statement is any indication, the beloved series is returning for another run next TV season. There is a caveat, though: it may be the last.

During SXSW's Women To Watch panel discussions, the actress, who portrays the show's titular lead role, appeared to have let it slip that "Jane The Virgin" is ending sooner than later. When asked about directing an episode in the fourth season, Rodriguez said she hopes to "do more directing next year – in our final season."

While her statement is by no means any confirmation, it is worth noting that Rodriguez is both the series' star and its co-executive producer so there is a reason to believe the report. Plus, outside of Rodriguez' comment, it does sort of seem like the show is already nearing its end.

As Elite Daily noted, the episode counts of each season have been consistently reducing. From the 22 episodes of the first two seasons, it was whittled down to 20 in the third run and then 17 in the current one. Not to mention, the show has reinvented itself several times in its four-season tenure that the show's title is no longer even accurate to the story.

Then again, there may be other reasons too like Rodriguez' burgeoning career. Whatever the reason is, fans should not worry as the actress will have her hands full with other projects even if "Jane the Virgin" wraps up. Rodriguez is currently working as a producer on a couple of shows including immigration-themed "Have Mercy" and "Illegal," as well as the feminist drama "Femme."

In the meantime, Rodriguez will continue appearing in "Jane The Virgin" which airs Fridays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
