The furore surrounding Christian author Jen Hatmaker's support for homosexuality and same-sex marriage still has not died down, but the author has decided to give comfort to those who are still upset with the results of the Nov. 8 U.S. presidential election.

Hatmaker said even though Donald Trump won, no leader can ever make Christians fear or hate their neighbours. "No leader can stop us from loving, defending, representing, advocating, bridge building, and gathering. No human has ever been able to staunch the power of love," she wrote on her Facebook page. "We have had many presidents and we will have many more, and yet here we are, the people of Jesus, managing to further the kingdom generation after generation through cultures, shifts, crisis, and the changing of guards."

To Trump supporters who are feeling happy about his win, Hatmaker has a message for them: "Show restraint on your celebration."

Hatmaker said the election campaign has caused a lot of pain to so many people. Many are dismayed over the loss of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. As such, victors need to be careful not to rub their happiness off on the losers the wrong way, she said.

"Please be gracious and gentle today. Please acknowledge the very real pain of so many of your neighbours," she urged Trump supporters.

Lastly, Hatmaker advised those who were dismayed by the election results to be kind to themselves and focus on all that is good in this world instead. "Be with your people. Turn off the TV. Pray and sing. Call your mom. Put generous words out there today, in person, online. Smile at your children and protect their innocent, unspoiled hearts. It's a good night for soup and bread. I love you. Jesus loves us. No one can ever steal from us what God has already won for us," she said.
