'Jurassic World 2' release date, cast news: Jeff Goldblum explains Ian Malcolm's return in 'Fallen Kingdom'

Fans will not see Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) on the big screen again until "Jurassic World 2" next summer. However, the actor is already dropping hints about the return of the famous leather-jacketed mathematician in the franchise.

In an interview with Radio Times, Goldblum was careful not to give away much about his character's return. However, he did spill enough to feed a portion of everyone's curiosity about his involvement in the film.

"Ian Malcolm, yes, might be back in this one," the actor told the publication. "And he might have something to say about the current confluence of circumstances around the use and misuse of technology."

Malcolm was brought in as an insurance consultant in "Jurassic Park," where he also served as a genetic engineering skeptic. Having barely survived the events of the first movie, he returned as the main protagonist in Steven Spielberg's massive follow-up, "The Lost World."

It remains to be seen how he will be brought back to the fold. But, it is interesting, to say the least, considering he really did not want to go and rescue his girlfriend (Julianne Moore) in the second dino-island in "The Lost World."

Regardless, fans can expect no changes in his style of clothing. As he jokingly teased, Malcolm might be wearing his signature dark clothing and tinted glasses again.

Meanwhile, for those fans who have been wondering what his character has been doing all these years, Goldblum revealed, "He opened a jazz club, probably, and he's been playing every Wednesday in a place called Rockwell. He calls it Rockwell."

Before he reprises his role as the suave mathematician, Goldblum will be seen in "Thor: Ragnarok" as the Marvel character The Grandmaster. The film hits United States theaters next Friday, on Nov. 3, while "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" is set for release on June 22, 2018.
