More than a month after its release, "Jurassic World" has grossed more than $1.5 billion in the box office. Meanwhile, Jurassic World 2, which is still awaiting official confirmation, has been hinted at.

"Jurassic World," a movie by Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment that features Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, is breaking all-time records. Variety reported that the movie made $204.6 million during its opening weekend — coming second to Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park III", which had a $368.8 million opening in 2001.

Now, after almost six weeks from its opening date last June 12, it has raked in $1.522 billion. The movie has unseated "The Avengers" as the third highest grossing movie in history.

"Jurassic World" sits behind "Avatar", which earned $2.788 billion and "Titanic", which grossed a total of $2.186 billion. Note that the numbers provided are yet to factor in inflation. With inflation taken into account, Titanic, which was released in 1997, earned an estimated $3.25 billion while Avatar, which hit the theatres in 2009, raked in approximately $3.101 billion.

The movie's success came amidst the storm of online criticism that it received. Brent Lang of Variety attributes it to several factors, which include timing, Chris Pratt's presence drawing in audiences, and Colin Trevorrow's approach to what many people now remember as a Spielberg classic. Lang also noted that the PG-13 rating helped the movie a lot in terms of revenue. He said, "The PG-13 rating made the prospect of seeing pterosaurs treat tourists like birdseed something of a family event. That resulted in an opening weekend crowd that was 39% under the age of 25, a demographic that hadn't been born or was barely verbal when the first film debuted."

Following the "Jurassic World's" success on its opening night, Chris Pratt confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he signed for a "Jurassic sequel." Official announcement for it, however, is yet to be made.

"Jurassic World" is still available in theatres throughout the globe.
