In 2013, it was reported that J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar will be collaborating on a new album. While there have been many joint songs over the decade, an entire album project between two artists is very rare, and so the general public is anxiously waiting for any information on the release date of this new album. However, according to Australia Network News, this album might be delayed due to the two singers working on solo projects.
Vine Report speculates that a third party might be messing things up, and they believe that this artist might be Drake. Kendrick Lamar apparently has a few legal copyright issues on his folder, and him working with Drake might just halt any kind of flow with J. Cole. The rapper's facebook page has also stopped updating since April, and other sources believe that this means he is currently keeping quiet about whatever work he is pursuing.
The Bitbag, on the other hand, believes that the album might still be out this year, since the J. Cole fansite recently shared a video suggesting that he is currently working on something important. While Kendrick may be slowing things down on his end, J. Cole is definitely the type to pull a project through to the finish line. Christian Times also reports that other big names in the music industry believe that the album is still going to happen. Dave Free, the president of Top Dawg Entertainment, states in an interview that he believes this collaboration album might just be out by the fourth quarter of this year.
However, being two big-name rappers themselves, they will still definitely be too busy with their own personal work to get together and think up some new beats. Free also mentions the creative process, stating that even a single person takes a while to get in the zone for song creation, so it would definitely take a lot of time and energy for two people to do that together. While there have defintiely been a few surprise releases this year, fans might just be smart to not hope too much regarding this album.
