Benson and her team go in a nationwide manhunt in the upcoming episode of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

It is not everyday that Lt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) gets to go on a manhunt that spans several states, but it will happen in the upcoming episode of "Law & Order: SVU."

In "Nationwide Manhunt," CarterMatt reports that two serial killers will escape from their prison in New York. One of them is a notorious criminal with connections to Chicago P.D.'s Lindsay (guest star Sophia Bush) and Dawson (guest star Jon Seda). In the past, the detectives were instrumental in sending him behind bars. When Gregory Yates (Dallas Roberts), together with Carl Rudnick (Jefferson Mays), somehow found a means to escape, they will unerringly head to Chicago to get revenge.

Benson will reportedly receive intel on the criminal's plan and will get in touch with Voight's (Jason Beghe) team. The promo for episode 14 shows the pandemonium that ensued as two police forces hunt for Rudnick and Yates. The clip opens with a televised presscon where the authorities are warning the public that two dangerous men are at large.

The manhunt for them turns bloody, as they always appear to be one step ahead of Benson and the Chicago agents. Their trail is littered with dead bodies. As the police converge on the escaped convicts, Benson and her team will learn exactly how difficult it is to apprehend killers determined to cause as much mayhem as they could.

Meanwhile, the series was recently renewed for season 18. Showrunner Warren Leight told The Hollywood Reporter that they had been bracing themselves for the worst, as they knew the procedural's rating was not as expected by the network, especially with the timeslot they have.

"We've always been aware that our numbers are lower than they could be if we were on Tuesday at 10 or Wednesday at 10 or Thursday at 10 and that the competition is very tough in that 9 o'clock slot. Sometimes there's been this unspoken fear that we're being asked to build our own coffin," he shared.

"Law & Order: SVU" season 17 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
