'Legend of Zelda': New game will go easy on the tutorials

"The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" was a good game, but players had one specific complaint—there were too many tutorials in the game.

For the first few hours of the game, Kotaku.com described it as "excruciating until you could actually play it." The fact of the matter is, "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" had so many intro and tutorials that it will take a player around four to five hours before they can play the game. What a slow start that is and it's one of the factors why the game declined in the past years.

The new game "Legend of Zelda: Between Worlds" has improved as the makers of "Zelda" already acknowledged the problem. Eiji Aonuma, head of "Zelda" told Kotaku.com that he is aware of the problem and that it might not be such a good idea to overload the game with instructions after all.

In the new game, Aonuma promises that the new game will take it easy on the tutorials... a lesson learned for the game makers. Further, Kotaku.com asked Aonuma about the approach he is planning to take on the future games, will it be more of the new game, the old one, or a mix of both? He was also asked about what he thought about intros and tutorials.

This is what Aonuma said: "When we created Skyward Sword, I really felt the need to make sure that everyone playing the game understood it. But I also understand now, in hindsight, that when you go out and buy a game, you buy the game because you want to play it, and you don't want to have any obstacles in the way. And I guess it was received as a bit of an obstacle. In a game, it's when you get stuck, when you want that help. And I kinda frontloaded all that in Skyward Sword, and it doesn't really help to get that information when you don't know what to do with it. So that was a real learning experience for me. So I'm going to be careful not to do that."

So, what approach will the new "Zelda" game use? Aonuma implemented Hint Ghosts, these are pop-up go-to advice creatures that only comes out when you need help. The "Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds" was introduced at E3 and this Nintendo game will be a vast improvement from its predecessor.
