Logos Hope welcomes aboard half a million in Caribbean

So many people have turned out to visit Operation Mobilisation’s ministry ship Logos Hope in the Caribbean, which in its busiest moments was selling a Bible a minute in its onboard book fair.

The ship has made more than a dozen calls at parts throughout the region, bringing vital resources to an otherwise under-resourced part of the world through the Christian and educational book fair.

Daniel Vaupel, from Germany, is one of the ship’s 350 Christian volunteer staff. He leads the book fair team.

“We offer 6,000 different titles and all of them are good quality new books that cannot normally be found on small Caribbean island,” he said.

“We’re delighted that on average each visitor is buying three books, and 25 per cent of all purchases are from the Christian selection – including 57,000 Bibles.”

Each child visitor to the boat received a free copy of the Most Important Story Ever Told comic book explaining the Gospel in colourful pictures.

The ship’s conference facilities have been used on a daily base by locals to run events including an evangelistic youth gathering in St Lucia, a seminar on godly marriage in Grenada, and a HIV and Aids awareness-raising presentation in Aruba.

Other members of the ship’s crew headed onto dry land for part of their stay in the region, to express God’s love by providing free medical equipment and improving water supplies to poorer villages.

Logos Hope visited various ports around the UK last year, drawing more than 80,000 visitors. It heads next to West Africa and is appealing for donations to help cover the cost of fuel for the journey.
