'Mario Kart 9' release date, news: Nintendo Switch trailer shows footage of game

"Mario Kart" as seen on the Nintendo Switch trailer Nintendo

The reveals trailer for the Nintendo Switch clearly showcased how the unit can serve as both a home console and as a portable gaming device. however, it also managed to showcase some games. While some of the games are already available for the Wii-U. The other consoles like the PlayStation 4, such as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," one of the videos tease what may be "Mario Kart 9."

A report from Games Radar showcases a better look at the footage of the unreleased "Mario Kart" game. One of the most notable features is that King Boo is back as a playable character. It also reveals that racers can now hold onto two power-up items instead of just one.

However, this may not be direct confirmation that "Mario Kart 9" is on the way or that the footage in the trailer is real. It is important to note that throughout the trailer there is a message at the bottom that reads "game footage not final; graphics and features subject to change."

Eurogamer further confirms this when it reported that the actors in the trailer were not playing any real games and instead were filmed holding dummy units. According to the report, the commercial was filmed in the middle of September and under tight security, with all of the game footage being added much later in post-production.

A spokesperson from Nintendo UK reached out to Eurogamer to explain that the trailer was meant solely to showcase the Nintendo Switch and its capabilities but Nintendo would begin talking about the planned games prior to the Switch's launch in March 2017.

"At a later date, before the March launch, we'll be talking about things like exact launch date, and of course, the games," the spokesperson stated. "You shouldn't assume what you saw on the video represents actual game footage and further specifics on first-party games will be provided later."
