"Metal Gear Survive" will put solo players' survival skills to the test, as the developers of the game have given details about the single player component of base-building.

Developer and publisher Konami has released a five-minute video which explains how players can either build bases solo or with a group. They have also revealed details about the single-player campaign of the "Metal Gear" spinoff, explaining that its only connection to "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" is that it shared the same settings during the first few minutes of the game.

As such, it will not be featuring the most famous icons of the "Metal Gear" franchise such as Snake or Raiden, and players will only get to control random Militaires Sans Frontières (MFS) grunts.

The game will feature hunger and thirst mechanics in its single-player or multiplayer aspects, meaning gamers will have to tend to their character's well-being by hunting food and gathering water. They will also have to make a shelter from the wreckage of a military base in order to defend themselves from zombies and wild animals, or other players if given the opportunity.

There will also be plenty of materials and components the players must collect in order to craft something from defensive barriers to weapons and gear. Firearms will also be scarce since the game takes place in a dimension different from the one in "Metal Gear." Luckily, players will be able to use a bow and arrow should their bullets run out.

One of the core gameplay mechanics of "Metal Gear Survive" is exploration, where players will be rewarded should they come back alive. Once they have gained footing, they will be able to transform the wrecked Motherbase into a self-sustaining fortress with a farm, and they will hopefully have enough materials to build a Metal Gear weapon to thwart attackers and other players.

"Metal Gear Survive" will be out on Feb. 20, 2018 for US and Feb. 22 for Europe on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
