Zombies, Metal Gears, and super soldiers are an odd combination of genres, but not for "Metal Gear Survive" from Konami, as the game has finally been announced for a February 2018 release.

Developer and Publisher Konami has finally announced the arrival of "Metal Gear Survive," a spin-off of "Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes," which was released back in March 2014. Originally, Konami had planned for a 2017 release for the game but had to delay to 2018 in order to provide more polish to the game, as well as to optimize the performance on several gaming platforms which it will be available on.

"Metal Gear Survive" is an action-adventure game, which will allow players to embark on a "dense single-player mode" experience, as announced by Konami. The game will also feature a multiplayer option in the form of cooperative (co-op) mode where players will have to use stealth and their gear to fend off deadly zombie-like enemies in the "Metal Gear" universe.

"Metal Gear Survive" takes place in an alternate timeline from "Ground Zeroes," which was the prequel to "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." The story follows the evacuation of Big Boss and Kazuhira Miller from their burning Mother Base after being besieged by Skullface and the XOF.

Apparently, a wormhole opens in the sky and swallows the Mother Base and its remaining survivors into a different reality where the world is populated by zombie-like beings called "creatures." Players will have to work together with materials they can find in the alternate reality in order to get back to their original world.

Konami has offered a deal to those who pre-order the upcoming game for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and the Xbox One. They will be receiving a pre-order bundle containing four gold-plated weapons, two emote gestures, four metallic survival scarves, kabuki-style face paint, a Mother Base nameplate, and an accessory called "Boxman." The game is priced at $39.99 for all versions.

"Metal Gear Survive" is set to be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Feb. 20, 2018 in the US and Feb. 22, 2018 in Europe.
