'Mortal Kombat X' Rain DLC release date: New update coming soon?

Ed Boon knows exactly what makes "Mortal Kombat X" fans excited. The creative director of NetherRealm Studios recently teased fans through a cryptic Twitter post about the possibility of releasing a classic "Mortal Kombat" character in the near future.

Boon posted the promo poster for a Broadway show called "Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles" on Tuesday, and captioned it, "Hmmm... I do love the Beatles." But long-time fans of the game know that the creative director was not just referring to the musical tribute to the British band but to the iconic water-ninja character as well.

Rain was first introduced in the "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3" which was released in 1995, and reappeared as one of the DLC characters in the "Mortal Kombat" reboot back in 2011.

However, it is not certain whether Rain will appear in the new "Mortal Kombat X" as a playable character or not. Previously, one avid modder known as XVermillion managed to play using the character as well as Baraka and Sindel by opening their source files and unlocking the character abilities, and then posting his discovery in YouTube.

If a "Rain" DLC will be released, it will only take a while before the game developer announces its official release date.

Meanwhile, the most recent character to be included in the "Mortal Kombat X" roster is the legendary slasher horror character Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" franchise. He is reportedly a new playable character which can be downloaded online.

Another expected DLC character to be included is the Predator, made popular by the "Aliens" series. His involvement in the game was announced through an official teaser unveiled during one of the live stream sessions held by the NetherRealm Studios.

Mortal Kombat X is now considered as the fastest-selling title in the history of the franchise, according to a report from VG247
