The highly anticipated Apple Watch has been unveiled last Tuesday and slotted for a possible release date in early 2015.

According to Mashable, while there have been limited details about one of the tech giant's latest offerings, a number of features has already been identified for the touch screen device. The Watch will require an iPhone for it to be used, such as the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and the upcoming iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Third-party apps will be supported, such as Nike, Facebook, and Twitter, as announced at the launch event last Tuesday. Apple will also be releasing an API for app creators to have access to all of the watch's features.

A dial, known as the digital crown, can be used for scrolling up and down the user interface, allowing the user to select apps and go back to the home screen. Sapphire lenses have also been incorporated for the Watch's sensors, allowing the detection of the user's pulse through infrared and visible light.

Meanwhile, the Moto 360 from Motorola has already been launched in the U.S. last Sept. 5 and is being tested in other parts of the world, such as the U.K. The circular smartwatch will be made available in Motorola's online store as well as in Google's Play Store, Amazon, Tesco, O2 and John Lewis between September and early October.

As Motorola's modern take on smartwatches, TechRadar has reported that the Moto 360 comes with a 1.56-inch backlit LCD and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 but will consume a fully charged battery all in one day, as opposed to Samsung's Galaxy Gear 2 that promises more than one day of battery life.

The Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch offers a wider range of options and capabilities, such as making calls, customizing themes, capturing photos and videos and receiving real-time information from the its fitness manager, to name a few. Samsung unveiled the dust- and water-resistant device last April while its predecessor, Galaxy Gear, was released in September 2013.

The Apple Watch, with its battery life still to be determined, comes at a starting price of $349. Competing offerings such as the Moto 360 comes at $249 while the Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch costs $299.
