Moto X 2016 release date: Supposed first glimpses of new Moto X and Moto G surface

When Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility, fans were worried that the parent company might retire some of the Moto lineups. If the speculations are proven true, Lenovo might at least retain the Moto X and Moto G flagships.

According to Phone Arena, images of what are alleged to be prototypes of the new Moto under the direction of Lenovo surfaced online. Supposedly, the prototypes captured in the images are the new Moto X and Moto G iterations, scheduled for release sometime this year, and possibly by July as first teased by an unnamed Lenovo executive.

The industry follower, however, stated to take the images with a grain of salt. First of all, the alleged images seem to be too detailed, with some supposedly captured in the Lenovo assembly line. Like any tech manufacturer with their own production lines, Lenovo has strict security measures in place to control leaks such as the supposed images from getting out, and prematurely announcing some upcoming products. In addition, should the images really turn out to be the Moto X and Moto G prototypes, the products seem to be only in the first stages of development. This means that the final versions of the devices will not look like the prototypes at all.

However, according to GSM Arena, should the supposed images turn out to be the new Moto X and Moto G, hardcore fans can already spot some clues even at this early stage of development. Reportedly, the new Motos have ditched the design of the previous iterations, with the Moto X allegedly getting a slimmer, sleeker profile. In addition, the shots captured what appeared to be an all-metal chassis for the Moto X.

The Moto G meanwhile, still retained some of its design similarities with the current-gen lineup, and will still release with a number of color options. Allegedly though, the "M" brand is already absent on both devices, and it is unclear how Lenovo will be marking the 2016 Moto X and Moto G flagships.
