'Narcos' season 3 spoilers: Javier Pena to still play a significant role in upcoming season; Steven Murphy sidelined?

It looks like the death of Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) did not mark the end of DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) agent Javier Pena's (Pedro Pascal) business in "Narcos" season 3.

Filming for "Narcos" season 3 is well underway. This was announced with a photo of DEA Agent Pena addressing the world about Escobar's fate.

"The blow must go on. Pablo might be dead but the war is not over," the caption for the image reads, which somehow implies the return of Pena in "Narcos" season 3.

In reality, Pena flew to the United States after the death of Escobar to take on a new mission. This appears to be what he did by the end of the second season.

This is why, in "Narcos" season 3, fans will catch up with Pena when he is in the U.S., hence, the image.

However, with the show's focus on the Cali Cartel and the agent's lack of involvement there in real life, it was believed that he will be sidelined this season, but this does not appear to be the case.

Two new series regulars will be brought in to play the roles of new DEA agents that will deal with the Cali Cartel in "Narcos" season 3.

"Cloverfield" star Michael Stahl-David will play the role of a young and no-nonsense American DEA agent named Chris Feistl, while his partner on the job — Daniel Van Ness — will be played by "Go Girls" actor Matt Whelan.

As per the description obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Stahl-David's "Narcos" season 3 character "sought out assignment to Colombia as the drug trade shifts to the Cali Cartel's takeover in the wake of Pablo Escobar's death."

THR says that the two will join Pena in "Narcos" season 3, which means that the show could be exercising its creative liberty on the show to include Pascal's character to the mix.

This possibly puts the return of DEA agent Steve Murphy's (Boyd Holbrook) return in the new season on the sidelines, with Pena apparently getting new colleagues.

Pascal appears to still be in Colombia, where "Narcos" season 3 is currently being filmed. He shared a photo of his view in Bogota as well as a behind-the-scenes photo with director Andi Baiz.

It may be hard to fathom how such pettiness plays into the government’s wider crackdown on FoRB and other fundamental human rights, or how on earth it could justify extending its repression to children, but ultimately it all comes down to fear.
