'New Girl' season 7 sees Schmidt and Cece's child make an appearance

The final run of "New Girl" will leap forward three years into the future. This means Cece (Hannah Simone) and Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) baby, who was just an invisible baby bump last season, will be an adorable toddler when the show returns. While fans have yet to meet the little one, new information reveals major details about the couple's kid.

It can be recalled that the season 6 finale of the Fox sitcom simply dropped the baby news without really getting into details like how far along Cece was in her pregnancy. The answer to that remains unclear, but TV Line reported that Cece and Schmidt's child will be three years old come season 7. Sources also revealed that the toddler will be a witty young girl.

"New Girl" fans have long been hoping for Schmidt and Cece to have a kid. Simone previously told The Huffington Post that people always asked her about it, especially after Cece and Schmidt got married. "[W]hen I walk down the street people come up to me and are like, 'You guys got married. Where's the baby?' And I'm like, 'You understand, they have to write the baby.'"

It may be a decision for the show's writers to make, but Simone fully understands the excitement on the possibility of a mini version of Cece or Schmidt appearing on the show. She herself wants to explore the parenthood storyline for her character and Greenfield's.

Noting how hard emotional intimacy was for their characters, the actress said, "I think a lot of people relate to their story so when they finally decided to be together and go to that next step, everybody was so invested."

Schmidt and Cece were in a good place the last time fans saw them. While they waited for the baby, the couple had moved out of the loft and into their new home where Cece also set up her new business as a manager for models. Schmidt, on the other hand, also got promoted at his job and was doing well.

Unfortunately, Fox has not set a return date for the final season as of yet, but it is expected to premiere sometime next year. There will reportedly be 8 episodes, much less than the 22 episodes in previous runs.
