'New Mutants' plot news: Motion teasers for Cannonball, Wolfsbane released

Just months away from the premiere of the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off, "The New Mutants," promotional stills and teasers have been keeping everyone excited. The two new motion posters were recently released featuring Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams) and Sam Guthrie/Cannonball (Charlie Heaton).

The film's official Twitter account shared the new motion posters, the first of which features Cannonball standing in what looks like a dark cellar. The words "Welcome to your nightmare" appear and the letters zoom in and out. The caption of the Twitter post reads, "They surround you."

Although there is not much else that can be made out of this poster, the caption as well as the words that appear on the teaser suggest that the mutant is in the last place he would want to be in. Could this perhaps refer to the incident in the mine where his powers first manifested?

A motion poster for Wolfsbane was also released. It features the mutant sitting in bed with her hands clasped together as if in prayer. The caption reads, "You're definitely gonna need a higher power." This line certainly gives a nod to her origins.

In comic canon, Wolfsbane was adopted by an abusive priest who turned out to be her biological father. She is known to have a darker origin compared to her groupmates. In the movie, they are patients in what seems to be a mental institution, under the watchful eye of Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga).

Another promotional teaser was shared by the film's director Josh Boone on his Instagram. This teaser pays tribute to AC/DC's popular rock and roll album "Highway to Hell." In the photo, Illyana Rasputin/Magik (Anya Taylor Joy) and Roberto da Costa/Sunspot (Henry Zaga) are in the center. Magik is holding a stuffed version of Lockheed. Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Danielle Moonstar/Mirage (Blu Hunt) are standing behind them.

"The New Mutants" premieres on April 13, 2018.
