Nintendo, one of the largest video game companies in the world, is treating its fans and gamers to a really good year. With the recent release of the Nintendo Switch last March, gamers probably did not expect a new console within the year. That was until the gaming giant announced the New Nintendo 2DS XL.

Given the highly-advanced Nintendo 3DS, the first question gamers asked — how was the New Nintendo 2DS XL different? People also asked why they would want to purchase it when the Nintendo Switch gives all the perks and more.

"We know there is that group that says, 'You know, I take the [3D] slider when I start playing, I drop it down and turn it off, and I enjoy that experience'," Nintendo's senior vice president of sales and marketing Doug Bowser said, as quoted by Yahoo! Finance. "And for that group, that's what makes [the New 2DS XL] such a great option."

Bowser is referring to the 3D slider of the Nintendo 3DS where gamers would just have to tug it down to enjoy a 3D version of the game. Unfortunately, some fans pointed out that before you can see the graphic effects, one would have to hold the console in a certain way. That's why the New Nintendo 2DS XL is a great option for those who don't care much about the 3D aspect of Nintendo's high profile console.

Comparing to the Nintendo Switch, Bowser further emphasized that it is a home gaming system before anything else. While it does have the portability that any handheld Nintendo console is known for, it is best used at home.

PC Advisor reviewed the New Nintendo 2DS XL and gave a very positive feedback. Nintendo's new banner is equipped with the system of the Nintendo 3DS while at the same time providing gamers with the opportunity to expand their library to include the games normally available for the older version of the 2DS. It has a built-in amiibo support as well as the Nintendo 3DS XL's C stick, ZL and ZR buttons.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL comes in either black and turquoise or white and orange. Aside from its stylish aesthetics, the clamshell built of the console makes it easier to grip and carry.

Gamers can expect the arrival of the much-anticipated New Nintendo 2DS XL in July.
