The New Orleans Pelicans may have franchise star Anthony Davis back from a hip injury, but it was not enough as they lost for the third consecutive game this time to the New York Knicks at the Madison Square Garden, 95–87.

Davis was back last Sunday after suffering a bruised hip against the Dallas Mavericks which made him miss the previous two games before their matchup with New York.

New Orleans relied on Davis and he did not fail the team exploding for 36 points, also having 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and four rejections in 40 minutes of action.

Unfortunately, he did not get much help from his teammates with reserve forward Ryan Anderson and veteran guard Eric Gordon the only other Pelicans to score in double-digits.

Anderson had 16 points with five rebounds, while Gordon had 11 points to go with two rebounds and two assists.

In a report by the Associated Press, Davis said it was good to be back but it meant nothing since they did not capture the win.

"We still lost. I just want to win. I [can] score 42, two points, zero points, one point, I just want to win. Right now we just have to find a way to do that," the 22-year-old basketball star added.

The Pelicans dipped to 1–9 with the loss, placing them last in the Western Conference standings.

New Orleans will have a chance to improve that record when it hosts the Denver Nuggets today, Tuesday, at the Smoothie King Center.

Meanwhile, the Knicks were led by franchise star Carmelo Anthony in the victory as he tallied a double-double performance. Anthony scored 29 points and grabbed a season-high 13 boards, also having three assists and one steal.

The Knicks improved to 5–6 but are still in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference standings as they continue the home stand today taking on the Charlotte Hornets.
