An injured thumb will not be stopping quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as he will be starting for the New York Jets in their Week 9 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday.

According to ESPN, Fitzpatrick suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb during their 34–20 Week 8 defeat to the Oakland Raiders but practiced fully last Wednesday while wearing a glove.

The good news is, Fitzpatrick's injury is not with his throwing arm, with him already expressing his confidence about Sunday's start against the Jaguars.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles had a scare in their defeat to Oakland since along with Fitzpatrick's injury, backup quarterback and former starter Geno Smith was also hurt with a left shoulder bruise.

In a report by ESPN, before Fitzpatrick was appointed as starter, Bowles was worried with his quarterback situation and said that rookie passer Bryce Petty will be getting reps with the Jets looking to add a veteran quarterback.

But since Fitzpatrick is ready to go, there is no need for New York to search for a quarterback since Smith also practiced with no limitations despite his injury, according to reports.

ESPN also reported that Fitzpatrick understands the injury will soon require surgery but he already spoke with former Cincinnati Bengals teammate quarterback Carson Palmer who suffered the same injury before.

Palmer played through the injury and finished the season before undergoing surgery.

In seven games played this season, Fitzpatrick has 133 completions for 1,518 yards and 11 touchdowns; however, he has already thrown seven interceptions.

The Jets are hoping to come out of a two-game losing slump that saw them absorb defeats to the defending Super Bowl champions New England Patriots in Week 7 (30–23) and the Raiders (34–20).

New York is currently at 4–3 sitting in the second spot in the American Football Conference (AFC) East behind the unbeaten Patriots who are thriving at 7–0.
