Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop battery problem: Tips to save battery

Nexus 5

The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update is creeping to Android-based OEMs, but there are reports that those who received the upgrade noticed faster-than-normal battery depletion on their smartphones.

One of the smartphones that received the Android 5.0 update is the Google Nexus 5. According to users, the battery drains faster than usual, causing inconvenience and annoyance to the majority of those who experienced it.

Google has not rolled out a major and stable software upgrade that will fix all of the bugs and issues in Android Lollipop. Until it does, there are various tips and tricks that can be done in order to save the battery life of the handset.

Below are some tips in fixing the draining battery caused by Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update:

  • Restart the smartphone. Rebooting, sometimes, fixes the bugs and issues in a device.
  • Lower the screen brightness and the screen timeout via Settings.
  • Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in the notification bar or Settings when not in use.
  • Close apps running in the recent apps list.
  • Turn off vibrate mode which notifies users about a call or message but takes a toll on the battery.
  • Nexus 5 and other smartphones have Ultra Power Saving modes that cut down the battery use.
  • Another option is a spare battery or power bank to charge the handset.

Google is undoubtedly trying to resolve the battery drain issue and other bugs in the handset. It is rolling out Android 5.0.1 OS update to some devices, although some users are reportedly disappointed as they are still experiencing battery drain, app crashes, weak signals, inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks, and even spontaneous reboots of the device when it goes into sleep mode. It is expected that the search giant will roll out more updates in the near future.
