Indie game "Night in the Woods" is making its way to the Nintendo Switch on Feb. 1. The game's publisher Finji made the announcement on their official twitter page on Jan. 16.

The tweet, while short and sweet, stated that "Night in the Woods" would be available on the Switch's Eshop on Feb. 1. Finji also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch port would contain both the Weird Autumn and Sosltice updates. However, the port would not support touch controls.

An announcement trailer for the "Night in the Woods" Nintendo Switch port was uploaded to Finji's YouTube channel on Jan. 16 – the same day the announcement tweet was made. Similar to the PlayStation 4 trailer, the Switch trailer shows scenes of Mae doing various things in her hometown of Possum Springs. Glimpses of the more surreal aspects of the game are also shown – alongside the game's charming art style, original soundtrack, and in game mechanics.

It is a short trailer that does not delve much into the darker aspects of the game's plot.

Written by Scott Benson and Bethany Hockenberry "Night in the Woods" originally started as an idea on the crowd-funding website Kickstarter. It managed to each its funding goals and in 2013, the first supplemental game was released. Titled "Longest Night" it was a short game about mapping constellations and learning about the myths and legends present in the "Night in the Woods" world.

The second supplemental game "Lost Constellation" was released in 2014. The game revolved around Adina the Astronomer and the young Mae Borowski's reactions to the Christmas legends.

Night in the Woods was supposed to be released the year after the last supplemental game, but was pushed back and released on the PC on Feb. 21, 2017.

The game's synopsis reads:

"College dropout Mae Borowski returns home to the crumbling former mining town of Possum Springs seeking to resume her aimless former life and reconnect with the friends she left behind. But things are not the same. Home seems different now and her friends have grown and changed. Leaves are falling and the wind is growing colder. Strange things are happening as the light fades."

The game earned a following and overwhelmingly positive ratings on Steam due to its atmospheric storytelling and went on to be nominated for a Game of the Year award in game narrative.

"Night in the Woods" can be purchased on their official website and on Steam.
