"One Piece Film: Gold" is set to break records in Japan. According to a report from Crunchyroll, the film is currently scheduled for release in a total of 743 screens all across the country, making it the biggest theatrical release in Japan. This is significantly bigger than the launch of "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F," which was released in 653 screens.
"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F" managed to earn a total of $62.9 million in its total run, coming off of a $5 million budget, making it the most successful animated film release in the country. This is also significantly larger than the total amount that was earned by "The Last: Naruto the Movie" and "Boruto: Naruto the Movie."
With "One Piece Film: Gold" set to launch in even more screens it is speculated that the movie is going to earn a significantly higher amount than any of the aforementioned films given how popular the franchise is and how loyal the fanbase is.
Fans estimate that it may make at least $70 million but the issue preventing this is that the series is not as popular in other countries like the US, where the fanbase exists but is significantly smaller. This might drag the total revenue down to below the box office total of "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F."
To put things into perspective, the "One Piece" manga has 82 manga volumes and is still ongoing. There are also 13 feature films in the series. In contrast, the "Naruto" manga stopped at 72 volumes and the "Bleach" manga series which is scheduled to end at 74 volumes. This makes the series one of the longest ongoing manga and anime in existence.
As shown in the offiical trailer, "One Piece Film: Gold" sees Luffy and his crew at the Grantesoro, the largest entetainment city in the known world. However, as they explore and spend their hard earned cash in the myriad of games and entertainment hotspots something more sinister is brewing in the background.
