Pastor Greg Laurie tells Christian girl who is dating a non-believer: 'Break up with him!'

When Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship was asked by a Christian woman about her relationship problem with a non-believer, the pastor gave her a very blunt and direct answer.

"Someone wrote to me recently and asked about the relationship with the guy she's been involved in for four years. She says he's not into God, he's not into religion, and he's dragging her down spiritually," Laurie said in a Facebook video posted last Friday. "What should she do? Ready for the answer? Break up with him!"

Laurie referred to the Bible verse 2 Corinthians 6:14, which tells Christians not to be "unequally yoked together with nonbelievers, for what friendship does light have with darkness?"

"Look, sometimes believers can pull non-believers up, but more often non-believers pull believers down," he further explained. "When you're getting into a relationship with someone, look for someone that loves the Lord. Let me take it a step further, look for someone that loves the Lord even more than you do. So look for a Godly man, or a Godly girl."

This is not the first time Laurie has spoken about relationships with non-believers. Back in October 2016, he answered a question by a Christian woman married to a man who was also a non-believer.

However, in that case Laurie's answer was slightly different. Laurie did not advise her to separate or divorce from her husband; rather, he told her to win him over with her faith.

"Here's what I would say - according 1 Peter 3, [and] this isn't addressed just to women - 'If you are married to a nonbelieving man, seek to win him without a word.' What does that mean? That means that there is a point where we don't need more sermons, we need to just live it," he said.

The pastor said the woman should not try to convince her husband to become a Christian by talking to him about her faith. Instead, she should put her faith into action.

"I think that one of the problems we have when believers are married to nonbelievers is that it's all day sermons all day long - enough of that already," Laurie said. "Love him, show him what a real Christian is like. Pray for him, don't be discouraged, don't give up, because no one is beyond the reach of God."
