'Phenomenal' Demand for Places at Church of Scotland Youth Assembly

The Church of Scotland's dynamic National Youth Assembly has reported a "phenomenal" demand from delegates across Europe for places at its forthcoming National Youth Assembly this weekend.

More than 300 young people aged 16 to 25 from all over Scotland, England and Europe will attend the event in Dundee with the theme "Now, next and later", which will explore the transitions young people go through.

"We are delighted that the event has sold out. People who keep telling us that we have lost the plot with young people need to find another story," Steve Mallon, Event Organiser.

"In an age when so much media reporting about young people suggests that they are all into gang violence, guns and drugs it is a comfort that 300 young adults are choosing to gather to explore how they can live well and make a positive impact on the planet."

The event is moderated by Judith Taylor, a doctoral studies student from St Andrews University. She said : "The National Youth Assembly has been really important for me in so many ways. If it hadn't existed I doubt if I would still be involved with the Kirk."

The Rt Rev Sheilagh Kesting, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, will attend the event on the afternoon of Monday 10 September where she will talk with delegates and answer questions.
