'Pokémon Go' updates: Huge summer event coming in July

A huge summer event may be coming to the augmented reality game, "Pokémon Go."

In a recent interview indicated in the Japanese website K-Tai Watch, Niantic's Asian General Manager, Yoshiji Kawashima and Asian General Marketing Manager, Kenji Suka, revealed that there is a huge event being planned to launch in July 2017.

In a translated version, Kawashima said, "I hope you are looking forward to this huge event this Summer. Please look forward to it. Engineers are working hard now so that new functions can be implemented."

At the moment, no concrete details have been unveiled regarding the said event. They only said that new in-game mechanics are being developed. Nonetheless, there are already rumors as to what may come in the upcoming summer event.

According to rumors, the upcoming summer event for "Pokémon Go" may bring in several mechanics that players have been wishing for, including legendary events, group raids, player vs player (PvP) battles, and player trading.

There are also talks that the raids may allow several players to battle against a legendary Pokémon, wherein if they emerge as victors, they get a reward of a rare Pokémon.

More details will likely be revealed soon. Niantic has also yet to confirm the actual date of the upcoming event.

Recently, many fans enjoyed the Easter Event. Referred to as the "Easter Eggstravaganza," fans were able to their eggs at a faster rate. In addition, they got to hatch rare Pokémon in the 2-kilometer egg, including Larvitar and Lapras, as well as generation 2 Pokémon in the 5-kilometer egg, namely Cyndaquil, Chikorita and Totodile.

Fans also earned more candies, double experience (XP) when using the regular egg, and quadruple XP when using the lucky egg. The Easter event started last April 13 and concluded on Thursday, April 20, at 4 p.m. EDT.
