PS4 Slim release date: Sony's sleek console's development may be kept under wraps

The PS4 Slim has reportedly been slotted for a release date in late 2015 or early 2016, said to have been announced in the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event. Gamers are already highly anticipating the upcoming console, further sparking up online discussions and speculations about the PS4 Slim.

Although there has been no official news and confirmations about the console, it has been said that Sony is currently working on the PS4 Slim, making it a very compact gadget and addressing overheating issues that have been associated with the PS2 and PS3.

Gamingbolt recently created a list of changes that Sony should incorporate into the PS4, including a slimmer and lighter body, and a solid state drive (SSD) for minimal load times and easier data transfer, among others. A slim console version can also be expected to encourage companies in incorporating innovative cooling systems for their devices.

According to an article in Product Reviews posted early this year, the PS 4 Slim is likely to be kept under wraps while being developed.

"It would allow Sony to iron out the issues that players have reported so far from the PS4," Matt Tran from Product Reviews explained. "There has also been a big call for Sony to add PS3 backward compatibility, a feature which the PS 4 sorely lacks but will be offered through streaming on PlayStation Now later this year."

Tran had also drawn attention to possibilities relating to the PS4 Slim release date, which may be slotted within a year or two.

"It is more likely that we will see the PS4 Slim come in the next year or two, which will not be an issue for people who do not mind the wait," Tran said, while adding: "It is almost a certainty Sony will offer a redesigned and sleeker PS4 in the future, but the big question is when. Can you wait and more importantly, do you want one?"

The PS4's predecessor, PS3 Slim, was first released in September 2009, while a Super Slim design was launched in late 2012. After the PS4 was made available to the public last November 2013, Sony made an official statement that they will focus on supporting the PS3 until 2015.
