The sequel to the popular 2005 game "Psychonauts" will unfortunately not be hitting stores anytime soon. Although there was no release date that was ever mentioned by the developers, it apparently would not be ready on the time they thought it would be.

Double Fine Productions, the developers of both "Psychonauts" game, made the unfortunate announcement through their Fig.co page. Project Lead Zak McClendon gave the news in a video dedicated to the backers of the game. He made mention of the first playable build, which everyone was happy to see, as there was a good amount of progress. However, after doing some calculations of the game, it looks like they will be needing more time.

"Now we are in full swing, we know a lot more about the size and scope of the game we are going to make, how long it will take us to make it, and the amount of time we need to make it be great," reads the update. "From those projections we know that 'Psychonauts 2' will not be shipping in 2018, like we originally estimated when we published the Fig campaign two years ago."

They reassured their fans that this is not something they are making up as an excuse. They love the game as much as the fans love it, and the game is something that they do not want their fans to be disappointed in. After all, it did take more than 10 years for the sequel to be even announced.

As for when the new release date would be, they are still not setting an official date. "We do know about how long it's going to take but we don't want to say anything until we have a firm date for people," said McClendon.

Despite the sad news, the update ended them showing the progress they have already made so far, especially on the members of Raz's family. Many fans speculate that "Psychonauts 2" will be unveiled in 2019, but readers are advised to stay tuned for official announcements from Double Fine Productions.
