Rockstar Games may have pulled off an easter egg which will make fans of both "Red Dead Redemption" and "Grand Theft Auto (GTA)" ecstatic due to a tie-in mission which links the two franchises. The said mission was included in "GTAV" and is about Rockstar's upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2" game.

Gamespot sees the move as a prelude to the list of promotional activities which the developers have in store for "Red Dead Redemption 2." However, at the time being, there is no exact release mentioned for the much-awaited sequel. Fans and vigilant players of "GTA V" have discovered that the latest update includes secret missions which reference "Red Dead Redemption 2;" some will even grant players items for the future game.

Meanwhile, Rockstar themselves has confirmed the speculations and have admitted that there is indeed a crossover mission.

The said mission is available in "GTA Online," which is the multiplayer segment of "GTA V" and will have players pursuing rumors of a lost relic from the pre-modern western frontier. Coincidentally, "GTA V" is also set in San Andreas, a fictional representation of Los Angeles, California, which has a rich history of frontier life back in the 19th century.

Data miners have also dug up some details of the mission, revealing a scavenger hunt which will take players all across San Andreas taking photos of various landmarks. Afterward, the players will then be rewarded with a Double-Action Revolver gun, which is a standard weapon used by Cowboys and frontiersmen, the era which "Red Dead Redemption 2" features.

Acquiring the gun will then make the players eligible for a participation to a Headshot Challenge during Freemode, which will award them $250,000 in "GTA Online" and unlock the said revolver in "Red Dead Redemption 2" once the game arrives, provided they use the same account. It is still not clear yet whether the gun will be available for the upcoming game's single player or multiplayer content.

More will be found out once "Red Dead Redemption 2" gets released, which may be in Spring 2018.
