The release date for the much-awaited game "Red Dead Redemption 2" has finally been announced via an Amazon listing, and fans of the franchise now have a concrete date to eagerly wait for.

Based on the listing by the online retailer, the sequel to "Red Dead Redemption" will be released on December 31, 2017 for the PS4 and the Xbox One. The title is also now available for pre-order. Even better, gamers who pre-order can avail of a discounted rate for $50.99, which is $9.00 less than the regular price of $59.99. However, the discount was a limited offer that was only valid on Black Friday.

While this comes as good news to PS4 and XboX One gamers, PC players and Nintendo Switch users want to get in on the action as well so they launched a petition asking Rockstar games to develop the title for their respective consoles. The appeal was simply phrased: "Because Red Dead Redemption is an amazing game and we PC players have been denied from playing it. Please don't do the same with Red Dead Redemption 2."

The petition — which was posted on Change.org — has already reached 44,719 signatures out of its 50,000 target.

Based on the synopsis released for the game, the game will give gamers a whole new multiplayer experience.

"An epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland, the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience," read the synopsis.

Based on early rumors and speculations, John Marston could be one of the playable heroes based on early artwork released for the game. The artwork revealed seven men who may be the focal point of the storyline for "Red Dead Redemption 2."

Meanwhile, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick said that fans will have a lot to look forward to when the game is fiinally released.

"The times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again–and that's not meant to be cute," he said while describing the game.

He also promised that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will have "incredible emotional depth" and that fans "can expect there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements."

"Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released for the Ps4 and the Xbox One on December 31, 2017.
