'Reign' season 3 spoilers: Mary offers own life to save Francis in episode 4

Reign The CW

Fans of "Reign" know that Francis, King of France (Toby Regbo) will die in season 3, but it seems like his wife Mary (Adelaide Kane) will not give up on finding a cure to extend his life.

Based on the episode synopsis for the episode titled "The Price," Mary will search for a healer who uses magical powers to keep Francis from dying. Mary knows that only Francis can help her deal with the growing problems in Scotland.

The trailer for the episode shows Mary's desperation when she asks her men to look far and wide to find a healer to save Francis's life, even if she has to pay a huge price for it.

The synopsis for the episode reads:

"After Mary receives an urgent message from her ailing mother (guest star Amy Brenneman) about the dire situation in Scotland, she finds herself looking to Francis for aid. Catherine (Megan Follows) finds herself up against Narcisse (Craig Parker) as she fights to become the regent to Charles (guest star Spencer MacPherson). Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) faces continued pressure to wed."

But while the King of France is seen taking a deep breath toward the end of the trailer, it will not guarantee that he will be completely healed since Francis's death has been confirmed by series showrunner Laurie McCarthy even before "Reign" season 3 began.

Meanwhile, Mary will not be the only one who will be greatly affected when Francis dies this season. According to McCarthy, the entire French Court will suffer because of this.

"Francis' death shifts the power dynamic at court between Narcisse and Catherine," McCarthy explained in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly. "There's going to be a huge battle for the regency coming up and a blossoming relationship between Catherine and Narcisse, because his ambition is going to be awakened again."

"Reign" season 3 episode 4 will air on Friday, Nov. 6, on The CW.
