"Riverdale" continues its path towards a more serious and darker tone with the introduction of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The second season has already set itself up to tackle more adult themes than its premiere season. The CW teen show depicted a string of violent acts starting with the shooting of Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) at Pop Tate's (Alvin Sanders) diner. It was quickly followed by the strangulation and murder of Archie's former summer fling, Miss Grundy (Sarah Habel). The second episode also saw Moose (Cody Kearsley) and Midge (Emilija Baranac) getting shot while getting high.

It also happens that Miss Grundy was a resident of Greendale when she was murdered which not only widens the list of suspects but also could create the connections to the development of the TV adaptation of "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina."

It seems that the show plans to continue with this story arc all throughout the second season. This could work in their favor as they introduce characters that hail from Greendale one by one, including Sabrina, who lives in the neighboring town located on the other side of Sweetwater River, before they reveal who the man in the black hood is.

So far, fans have suspected Hermione (Marisol Nichols) and Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos), Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro), Mary Andrews (Molly Ringwald) and Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton).

Reports have it that the teenage witch will make her entry to "Riverdale" towards the end of season 2. With the show having 22 episodes in total, it would make sense for The CW to get fans for its new show by establishing a strong connection to its accompanying show which already has a strong fan base.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously revealed that they planned to have Sabrina appear at the end of season 1 but changed their minds and instead will connect her storyline to season 2's main arc.

The planned reboot of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch on The CW is said to have the same dark vibe as "Riverdale." The show intends to introduce Sabrina to the "Riverdale" universe with "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" having some similarities with the movie "Rosemary's Baby."

"Riverdale" airs on The CW every Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT.
