Samsung Gear S2 vs. Samsung Gear S specs: What's the difference?

After the release of Samsung's Gear S smartwatch device last October, the South Korean company is now preparing to unveil the successor, called the Gear S2, at the upcoming IFA 2015 event in Berlin. Unlike, its predecessor, the Gear S2 will sport a circular design instead of curved edges. In terms of the specifications, here's the difference between the Gear S2 and the previous model.

Both smartwatches run on Samsung's Tizen operating system (OS), which was designed not only for wearables, but also for other devices such as smartphones, tablets, home appliances, and smart TVs.

According to earlier reports, Samsung had planned to use this new OS for the evolving Internet of Things (IoT), which connects all devices via the Internet.

As for the screen, the original Gear S sports a 2.0-inch Super AMOLED display with a 360 x 480 pixel resolution and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Inside, it has a dual-core 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM and up to 4 GB of built-in memory storage.

As for the latest Gear S2, it is expected to feature a Super AMOLED display as well, but with a 360 x 360 pixel resolution, according to earlier reports. It will pack within itself 768 MB of RAM and up to 4 GB internal memory as well.

The Gear S comes with a 300 mAh battery, while the Gear S2 is rumored to have a smaller 250 mAh battery.

Other features expected to be seen in Gear S2 include an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a barometer, and heart rate monitor, which the Gear S also has.

According to a recent report by Digital Spy, there will be a unique feature in the Gear S2, with which users will have the ability to scroll through apps using the wearable device's rotating bezel. The report also adds that the watch will also come with S-Voice, a voice assistant which is the equivalent to Apple's Siri.
