Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge Plus release date August 12: What you should know

It was reported earlier this month that South Korean giant Samsung Electronics plan to unveil its new Note 5 phablet before the launch of Apple's iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus this coming September.

The move by the South Korean company is intended to bring the new phablet into the public spotlight before Apple's two new handsets come out, according to earlier reports.

The new Samsung Note 5 was suppose to be unveiled in September at the upcoming IFA 2015, an international trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, in Germany, according to previous rumors, as the company is known for unveiling a new Galaxy Note device every year within that month.

Now, new reports have surfaced claiming Samsung will be unveiling the Note 5 on Aug. 2. According to Fortune, these reports came from news sites DigiTimes and Sam Mobile.

In addition, the reports also say that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will also be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 5 phablet during an event that will take place in New York. Sam Mobile added that both new handsets are expected to be available for purchase on Aug. 21.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is the successor to the popular Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet that was launched last October. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 had earned the number one spot in terms of customer satisfaction, according to a survey that took place in the United States.

In addition, it is also reported that Samsung has began testing its new mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, in its homeland, South Korea. The Verge reports that the South Korean giant has invited Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users to join the trial. The new payment service is expected to take on Apple's own mobile payment service, the Apple Pay.
