The San Antonio Spurs continue to thrive this 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season and last Saturday, they dominated the Atlanta Hawks at home 108–88 for their fifth straight win.
Leading the Spurs was 2014 Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) forward Kawhi Leonard who had 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.
All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge also had a huge game for San Antonio, tallying 13 points, six rebounds, one assist, three steals, and two blocks.
Along with Leonard and Aldridge, the big three of the Spurs also provided great performances in the win over Atlanta.
Point guard Tony Parker had 11 points, three rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block. Veteran big man Tim Duncan provided a double-double 10 points and 18 rebounds, also having four assists, one steal, and two blocks. Meanwhile, guard Manu Ginóbili added 12 points, one rebound, three assists, and one steal.
Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer, who was a former Spurs assistant coach for a long time, praised the offense played by the team he formerly works for.
"Defensively, a lot of it looks very similar. Offensively, they are constantly tinkering, constantly changing and evolving and doing different things. That's part of what makes the whole group and Pop unique. They are a very innovative and creative group," Budenholzer said following the loss, according to the Associated Press.
The victory over the Hawks placed the Spurs second in the Western Conference standings with a 14–3 record, trailing the 18–0 Golden State Warriors by three games and a half for the number one spot in the standings.
Up next for San Antonio will be a road trip to take on the Chicago Bulls today, Monday, before returning to the AT&T Center this Wednesday to face the Milwaukee Bucks.
Meanwhile, the Hawks fell to the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings with the loss, which gave them an 11–8 record.
