Ever since ABC renewed the hit political drama television series, "Scandal," for a sixth season earlier this year, fans of the series have been looking forward to seeing more scandalous situations for Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, and the rest of the cast. The show has constantly been on the top spots of the most-watched television series list this year, and it looks like it will still retain, or increase, its viewership  in 2017.

According to the latest reports regarding the show, it looks like the network will be starting off the new season with quite a bang. The show itself closely follows the events of the political scene in the United States and it is likely to reveal the winner of the U.S. presidential elections in the very first episode. The network itself already announced when the show would be coming back, but more importantly, it also shared some tidbits on what fans should expect in the new episodes.

As it stands, there are two candidates vying for the position of the next president of the United States within the show. First Lady Mellie Grant, played by Bellamy Young, has declared her candidacy with Pope on her side as her crisis manager. On the other side is Frankie Vargas, played by Ricardo Chavira, with Cyrus Beene, played by Jeff Perry, as his right hand man.

Another interesting similarity that can be associated with the real-life presidential elections is the nature of the candidates themselves, with Mellie being perceived by most fans as a candidate that is equivalent to Hillary Clinton. Like Hillary, Mellie is a tough and experience politician who is aspiring to be the country's first lady President.

Aside from election results, several other unanswered questions will be tackled in the new episodes. These include the relationship between Olivia and Fitz, played by Tony Goldwyn, and the outcome of the building that was blown up in front of Huck, played by Guillermo Diaz, and Quinn, played by Katie Lowes.

"Scandal" Season 6 is set to premiere its new episodes on Jan. 19, 2017, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
