Pushing the boundaries of storage technology further, manufacturer Seagate announced three new 12 TB hard drives for Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices and desktop PCs.

The new drives are called the BarraCuda Pro, IronWolf, and IronWolf Pro. All three are part of Seagate's Guardian Series of high capacity storage devices.

"Our storage hungry customers and partners continue to ask for our latest and greatest technology along with increased capacity and performance in our purpose built products," said Matt Rutledge, the senior vice president of Business Marketing at Seagate Technology. "With the 12TB Pro products, Seagate buyers are overcoming capacity constraints in their systems and can access vast amounts of digital data anytime, from anywhere."

The BarraCuda Pro is designed for desktop PC users and professionals who work with large amounts of data. This drive is perfect for digital creatives who want to store very large content of 4K video or RAW picture files. With the popularity of new media like augmented reality and virtual reality on the rise, the BarraCuda Pro will be a valuable asset in storing these new types of content.

The 3.5-inch drive is compatible with most desktop units and spins at 7,200 rpm. It is rated at 300 TB per year workload and boasts a sustained data transfer rate of up to 250 MB per second on a SATA connection. The drive comes with a five-year warranty.

The IronWolf line, on the other hand, is designed for NAS devices and allows for file sharing and remote access. The IronWolf carries a three-year warranty and is rated for 180 TB per year workloads, while the Pro version carries a five-year warranty and has a 300 TB per year workload rating.

The BarraCuda will be available starting Oct. 13 and will sell for $525. The IronWolf costs $487, while the IronWolf Pro is listed at $530.
