Safety Kam Chancellor will not be playing for the Seattle Seahawks in their season opener against the St. Louis Rams because of his continuous absence.

Chancellor missed training camp and is in a holdout due to his contract dispute with the Seahawks.

In the team's practice Wednesday, Chancellor again was a no show and head coach Pete Carroll said in a conference that the three-time Pro Bowler will not be with them in Week 1 when they face the Rams.

"He's not here, and he's not playing. That's all I can tell you at this point," Carroll answered when asked about Chancellor.

Carroll admitted that he is disappointed also saying, "I am disappointed in this, very much so. And I think everybody should be because he's been such a great part of our team. It's unfortunate that it's come to this, and he's not here."

Chancellor has been a huge part of the Seahawks' defense and is a member of the famous "Legion of Boom."

Fellow Legion of Boom member cornerback Richard Sherman also said the current situation with Chancellor is disappointing but he is not surprised about the holdout, ESPN reported.

"He's a man. He's about his morals. He believes in what he believes, and he stands for his beliefs, so that's what he's doing," Sherman said about Chancellor holding out and added that they understand him.

Meanwhile, Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard is "encouraged" regarding the team's situation with Chancellor.

"We want him here. He wants to be here and right now both sides are working. Both sides are working," Richard said, according to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk.

Richard is optimistic that the Seahawks' contract dispute with Chancellor will be resolved and believes that the safety will not be missing a huge portion of the season.

The Seahawks are looking to make it to the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season after reaching it again last season but falling short against the New England Patriots.
