Another special treat headed for Sega fans is the arrival of the "Sega Genesis Collection" -- a compilation of cult-classic titles from the legendary game creator complete with a modern-day twist for a new generation of players.

According to the recently confirmed announcement, the new jam-packed collection will be seeing a release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC platform this coming May. On top of this, the bundle will come in a physical edition aside from the regular digital version.

In line with this reveal, the company even shared a sneak preview of the upcoming titles that will be included in the roster of games in the compilation. Among these mentioned titles are "Altered Beast," "Streets of Rage," "ToeJam & Earl," "Golden Axe," "Space Harrier," "Gunstar Heroes," "Sonic the Hedgehog," and "The Revenge of Shinobi."

The games in the new "Sega Genesis Collection" will be coming out imbued with a modern twist such as mirror modes, rewind, save states, and online multiplayer achievements.

Initially, the news of the collection was released through a tweet from Sega's official Twitter account. The tweet in question notes that the selection of games will come out exactly on May 29 and will be featuring a total of 50 retro games from Sega's own roster. However, only a handful of titles were named, and details about other titles to be included are yet to be released.

A few years back, Sega also released a collection of this magnitude on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It included over 40 titles from their diverse lineup, which includes titles such as "Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle," "Alien Storm", "Altered Beast", "Beyond Oasis," and "Bonanza Bros."

Seeing as the announcement was made accidentally, no news about a possible port to the Nintendo Switch has been revealed. However, TechRadar argues that Sega must still be recollecting itself after its surprise confirmation. They advise Switch owners to lookout for future announcements from Sega that will likely clarify what it intends to do with the hybrid console.

Here is the official trailer of the announcement.
