"Shadowhunters" has just scored 10 more episodes ahead of its season 3 premiere. The good news was announced this Saturday at the show's New York Comic-Con (NYCC) panel, alongside the confirmation that its third season will introduce two more characters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the additional episodes makes season 3 on par with the sophomore run which also had 20 episodes. The new season, however, will debut a little later than usual. Unlike with the first two installments, Freeform set the "Shadowhunters" season 3 release for April 3, 2018, at the same 8 p.m. EDT timeslot.

The back-half is for another Summer run, but it's unclear whether the episodes will run uninterrupted this time around.

On the casting front, it was announced that "Hamilton" star Javier Muñoz and "Arrow" actress Anna Hopkins will join the cast. As teased at the end of season 2, Hopkins will play the role of a new villain named Lilith. Producer Darren Swimmer describes her character as "scary, and so beautiful, and so sensual," also teasing that she is coming for Jace (Dominic Sherwood).

As for Muñoz, he will portray Lorenzo Rey, a rival warlock who is a major rivel to Harry Shum Jr.'s Magnus Bane.

A small-screen adaptation of the "Mortal Instruments" movie franchise, which is based on the best-selling young adult fantasy book series by Cassandra Clare, "Shadowhunters" centers on Clary's (Katherine McNamara) journey to the dark world of demon hunting after discovering her real identity as a Shadowhunter.

The third season will pick up a day after the events of the finale, with everyone still dealing with the fallout from season 2. Delving deep into the fourth book of the book series, executive producer Tom Slavin shared that it will have a "darker" and "more mature" tone without deviating from the source material. There will be character's backstories as well, including Maia's (Alisha Wainwright).
