Ron Cephas Jones is about to be magically cast as the wizard who will bestow the powers of the gods to Billy Batson (Asher Angel) or Shazam (Zachary Levi), as the actor is now currently in talks with the director of the upcoming DC movie and might soon join the production.

If talks push through, Jones, known for appearing in Netflix's "Luke Cage" series, will be playing the nameless wizard who gives Batson power because of an emergency. As fans would know, Batson will get the power of six mythological gods, whose initials together form up the acronym S.H.A.Z.A.M. The old wizard then tasks Batson with safeguarding the secrets of the gods and using their powers to protect humanity and everything that is good and pure.

This said secret comes in the form of the Rock of Eternity, which is the source of the power of the gods that can be passed down to mortals in order to intervene with the strife of human beings. This means Jones will play quite an integral role in the success and mentorship of Batson in order to keep him motivated as Shazam. The Wizard will also act as a way of explaining the plot to the viewers. He will able be painting a picture of what Shazam's enemies will be like, the majority of which are after the Rock of Eternity.

However, Jones's role could be quite short in the movie since the film "Shazam!" is heavily inspired by the 2011's New 52 version from DC comics. That said version of Shazam has the wizard dying immediately after bestowing the powers to Batson. The Wizard, based on the New 52 version of DC Comics, should come from the fictional Middle Eastern country of Kahndaq and is part of the council of beings who safeguard the power of the Rock of Eternity.

If director David Sandberg is to follow the New 52 version of Shazam closely, then it seems Batson will have a hard time getting the approval and trust of the Wizard, as he was not initially considered to be a good an pure-hearted boy due to his delinquency. More will be found out once "Shazam!" gets released on Apr. 5, 2019.
