Soul in the City to Mobilise 2,000 Christian Youth to Transform London

|TOP|SOUL IN THE CITY London is currently mobilising more than 2,000 Christian young people to take part in 40 separate projects aimed at serving their local communities across the Greater London area, from 29th July till 5th August 2006.

The original Soul in the City event took place over a two-week period in 2004, with youth coming from all over the world to gather at London’s Trafalgar Square for a huge worship and prayer finale.

Soul in the City brought over 20,000 young people from all over the globe to serve the community in London. It was reported that it took three years of careful, and meticulous preparation for the vision of Soul in the City to be fulfilled.

Now two years later in 2006 the Soul in the City movement is continuing to progress its vision.

The new initiative has received full support from the Police Commissioner and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams.

|AD|In addition, all main political party leaders have backed the new enterprise. Prime Minister Tony Blair said, “Soul in the City London 2006 stands as an excellent example of the part that people of faith can play in the regeneration and transformation of local communities.”

A spokesperson for the event, Patrick Regan also commented, “Soul in the City London began in 2004 and is building year upon year resourcing London’s churches in making a transforming difference in their local communities.”

Soul in the City will be launched at Kingsway International Christian Centre, in Hackney on Saturday 29th July, and will work in partnership with the Nicky Cruz community safety initiative.

The Carling Brixton Academy will be set up as the venue for the finale of Soul in the City London, which will take place on Saturday 5th August. The event has pulled together some leading urban artists such as Jahaziel, 29th Chapter, Judah and Secret, as well as featuring a number of passionate speakers.
