"Spider-Man" has been making the rounds on the internet with a lot of rumors about the plot. What's even more interesting is that even the cast is shrouded in mystery, making every fan of the web-slinging hero do their much-needed research.

Fortunately, Entertainment Tonight has insider information from Zendaya, who is believed to be playing Mary Jane for "Spider-Man: Homecoming." "Well, I am not Mary Jane, unfortunately," Zendaya told Nischelle Turner during the interview. She adds, "but I will be in the movie, which is exciting."

Rumors have been circulating for quite some time regarding her character, but she shot those allegations down during the interview. Zendaya mentioned that she plays a girl named Michelle and that she feels very lucky to be part of the film. She ends her statement by saying she'll just let people think what they want to think and that it is what it is.

Fans probably will have a tough time believing what she said. After explaining her role with a straight face, she playfully winks at the camera, which could possibly be a hint that she's trying to throw fans off. If anything, it just made people all the more curious about the upcoming film.

In other news, Michael Shannon, more popularly known as the man who plays the villain General Zod in "Man of Steel," may have turned down a key role in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." When asked if he's open to bigger franchises after the Superman movie, he said no and that what he really looks at is if the film is going to be any different.

In an interview with Fandango, he dropped hints by saying: "They called me recently about some iteration – I won't say – but some version of a movie that's been made already countless times. They were gonna give me a lot of money, but I was like nah. Big movie, too. But I have to think it's an interesting story. If I don't, I can't do it. I won't do it."

Some speculate that he may be referring to the "Spider-Man" franchise. After all, there were three "Spider-Man" films with Tobey Maguire playing the lead role and then another two films where Andrew Garfield donned the spidey suit. It certainly fit the description.

Perhaps a much-awaited trailer would shed more light on the cast, which Comic Book discovered could be alongside "Star Wars: Rogue One's" premiere on Dec. 16.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" will make its way to the silver screen on July 7, 2017.
