'Star Wars: Battlefront 2' release date news: EA exec drops a hint about single-player mode

"Star Wars " game fans were dismayed when "Star Wars: Battlefront" was released without a single-player option and lacking substantial content. However, EA, the game publisher, will try to make up for it with the game's sequel, "Battlefront 2," which has been confirmed to be under way and could possibly be launched next year.

According to Kotaku, EA's executive vice president Patrick Soderlund mentioned the reason behind the lack of a single-player mode in "Star Wars: Battlefront"during the company's investor's meeting. He mentioned that the game needed to make it in time for the release of the movie, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Soderland said, "Yes we know that the one thing we got criticized for was the lack of single-player campaign in it. That was a conscious decision that we made due to time and being able to launch the game side by side with the movie that came out, to get the most possible, to get the strongest possible impact."

He also said, "The depth and breadth is something that's proving to be more and more important. In a world where we want $60 upfront and where we expect people to stay with us over a long time, the depth of what we offer is important."

Soderland further stated that the company must try to learn from these mistakes and will try to provide more of what is expected from them with another version and future projects.

"Star Wars: Battlefront" has received mixed reviews. Its Metacritic rating is 75 out of 100, which is still generally favorable. Great games have received much higher ratings.

Overall, "Star Wars: Battlefront" is still considered a commercial success even if it lacks the single-player mode and the level of depth that players were looking for. The game was still able to sold over 14 million copies.
