'Stardew Valley' multiplayer update: Game almost ready for release

"Stardew Valley" is many things, but it lacks an essential feature: a multiplayer mode. Fans, however, have been clamoring for a long time, asking its developers to create multiplayer so everyone can play with their friends. Updates were given last year, but nothing definite had been revealed until recently when a sample screenshot of the multiplayer mode was shared online.

The game's creator, who goes by the name ConcernedApe on Twitter, recently Tweeted several updates about the game. The latest one is a screenshot of the game in what definitely seems like a multiplayer mode. There are four avatars across the farm, and there are even two houses to boot.

"4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house... it's really fun. It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid," reads ConcernedApe's Tweet update. "Being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can't wait to share this."

Not mentioned in the Tweet but visible in the screenshot is how there are two houses placed side by side. Presumably, the multiplayer mode allows players to become neighbors with their friends. There is also a flamingo in between the two fields of crops, which is not something players see in the game yet. It may just be a new scarecrow option.

Speaking of other features, ConcernedApe again Tweeted about other new content for the game. He mentions that he is now "finished with the new content and [has] shifted all [his] attention to getting multiplayer ready." As to what those are exactly is unsure. However, it may be the ones he mentioned in another Tweet from last December.

There is no news yet as to when exactly these updates will come out. The multiplayer mode, specifically, from the original 2017 release date was pushed back to the first quarter of 2018. At least with the Tweet, fans know that it will likely push through this time.
