'Stranger Things' plot rumors: Showrunner might be planning to exclude Mike

Mike (Finn Wolfhard) may not be featured in the future of the hit Netflix show "Stranger Things," as speculations have surfaced that the writers of the series may be writing him out.

Digital Spy has suggested that Wolfhard's increasingly popular character may be slated for a dramatic death in the upcoming third season of the show. Wolfhard is no stranger to '80s science-fiction mystery roles as well since he was also included in the cast of 2017's "It" as Richie of the Losers Club.

The young actor will then be reprising this role in the sequel for "It," albeit he'll be doing it through flashbacks. Still, the actor may become too busy juggling between the "It" sequel and other projects, such as his role for "The Turning," which is also set to be released in the near future. This could mean that between "Stranger Things" season 3 and his movie projects, Wolfhard may have to make compromises in order to prioritize his roles.

Wolfhard, by comparison to his co-stars in "Stranger Things," also has a lot more projects lined up for him, consequently giving his colleagues more chances to focus on the series. Mike's role in the story of the third season of "Stranger Things" might then be reduced, or worse, the writers could eventually plan his demise in the show should he need an exit to prioritize his film projects.

This would also make sense if the showrunners wanted to make Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) have a more frequent appearance in the plot. Regardless of what might cause Mike's death, Eleven would be enraged by it, and it might be possible to see a vengeance-driven character played by Brown. That said, at this point in the show's production, there are no confirmed developments yet for any of the characters.

Fans should still steel themselves as the possibility of Mike getting killed off is not that remote according to some theories. More will be found out once season 3 of "Stranger Things" gets released sometime in 2019.
