"Street Fighter 5" is getting six brand-new fighters. The announcement was made at the 2017 Capcom Cup. Yoshinori Ono, the executive producer of popular fighting game handled the character reveals.

The six new characters coming in during the third season of "Street Fighter 5" — Sakura from "Street Fighter Alpha 2," Blanka from "Street Fighter 2," Falke from "Street Fighter 5," Cody from "Final Fight," G from "Street Fighter 5," and Sagat from "Street Fighter."

All of the upcoming fighters will become available as playable characters on Jan. 16, 2018.

A cinematic opening for the new characters was uploaded onto Street Fighter's official YouTube channel on Dec. 10. The cinematic opening for the game's upcoming arcade version served as an introduction for the new characters. It also featured some of their fighting moves and the different levels players would be able to fight in. There are cameos from old fan favorites as well.

Sakura's reveal trailer was uploaded on Dec. 10. Sakura first made her appearance in "Street Fighter Alpha 2" in 1996. Unlike the other fighters, she was merely an ordinary schoolgirl who admired the famous fighter Ryu. After Ryu won the World Warrior Tournament, she was inspired by him, and goes on to become a fighter as well. She has been in the franchise ever since.

Individual trailers for the other upcoming fighters have yet to be released.

"Street Fighter" is a popular fighting game franchise that was first released in 1987. Over the years, the game had  many developers. However, its presence remained in the world of arcade fighting games. One of the things that have kept "Street Fighter" fresh over the years is the constant addition of new characters.

Often times, "Street Fighter" brings back fighters from its older games. The upcoming six fighters have all appeared in past "Street Fighter" titles. Some of them were playable characters while others made cameos from the different storylines.
