As Microsoft event in Shanghai on May 23 gets closer, more and more people are expecting the unveiling of the Surface Pro 5. Although, Panos Panay, corporate vice president of devices, has confirmed that there is no such device.

It has been more than a year since the release of the Surface Pro 4, so Microsoft users have been waiting for the release of the next generation of the Surface Pro. The timeframe between the release of the Surface Pro 3 and the Surface Pro 4 was around the same time as this; so, more speculations have come out about the release of the next-generation device.

The Surface Pro has come a long way since the release of the first-generation tablet. It now comes with better hardware, a new and improved operating system and better specs. The Surface Pro 4 is one of the few in the market that can be used as a tablet or a laptop with a detachable keyboard, which makes it highly competitive.

Although, Microsoft users are ready for the next big thing since not all specs of the Surface Pro 4 were a hit. One of the biggest complaints with the Surface Pro 4 was its battery life.

In an interview with CNET, Panay gave out details about a possible successor to the Surface Pro 4. He mentioned that the next generation of the Surface Pro 4 would have to have a major contrast before Microsoft will release it into the market. The drastic change will have nothing to do with the processor, but possibly better battery life than the previous iteration or a significantly new design.

Panay said, "You'll see that same meaningful impact when Pro 5, or Pro Next hits the market." He then added that "there's no such thing as a Pro 5."

A Surface Pro will definitely make its way to the market, but given Panay's statement, it won't be called the Surface Pro 5.
