'The Big Bang Theory' season 10 episode 9 spoilers: Sheldon is green with jealousy

The group takes a closer look at the damage to Sheldon's foot in "The Big Bang Theory" season 10, episode 9. CBS

After a couple of episodes devoted to exploring the pros and cons of living together for the first time, the particular arc involving Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) takes a break. Instead, the narrative of "The Big Bang Theory" is transferred to the workplace with Sheldon's professional jealousy consuming him.

In tonight's episode titled "The Geology Elevation," the theoretical physicist gets all riled up when he does not win the prestigious MacArthur Genius fellowship. Apparently, the genius lost to Caltech geologist Bert (Brian Posehn) and since then is having a hard time accepting the fact that he was beaten. Sheldon's moping reaches a new level when he starts to question geology as a science and even equates it to just the study of rocks.

In a promo clip for the installment, Sheldon, Amy, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) are all climbing up the stairs in their apartment when Sheldon starts rambling about the most mundane things, including a bike innocently parked in the building's hallway. His best friend then advises the ladies to ignore him as his crankiness is due to losing to Bert. Penny, the prankster that she is, chimes in saying that she actually heard Bert being interviewed on the radio. This starts a brand-new conversation about Bert's breakthrough findings that could actually further the research on finding life on other planets.

A different snippet, on the other hand, suggests that Leonard will take Sheldon out to cool down and hopefully get over his bad mood caused by the academic grant. But the latter's abhorrence of rocks, given that it reminds him of Bert, results to him being injured when he accidentally throws a rock onto his foot.

Elsewhere in the episode, Howard (Simon Helberg) reunites with his old invention — a remote-controlled Stephen Hawking action figure. Promo photos for the offering suggest that the gang will be having a get-together in Leonard and Penny's living room sharing takeout meals.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 10 airs every Thursday, 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
