The Christian Film & Television Commission¢â Presented Annual Faith & Values Awards

The Christian Film & Television Commission¢â began the Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry in 1992. Each year, the Christian Film & Television Commission?and its monthly publication, MOVIEGUIDE¢ç analyzes the content of all the major movies released by Hollywood.

The report clearly showed that movies which extol traditional moral values and faith make much more money on average than movies with abundant and graphic sex, nudity, violence, vulgarity, and other anti-Christian content.

Dr. Baehr founded MOVIEGUIDE¢ç in 1985 to inform parents and top entertainment industry decision-makers about good and bad movies and television programs, and good and bad cultural trends affecting the media. Since then, it has grown to an international weekly television program, several daily and weekly radio shows, an Internet site on the World Wide Web, and an international publishers edition.

The Christian Film & Television Commission¢â 's ministry has successfully revived the advocacy of the Church in Hollywood, which ended with the demise of the Protestant film Office and the Roman Catholic Legion of Decency.

Since its ministry began, the number of movies with positive moral content has increased from 68 such movies in 1991 to 202 such movies in 2002, an increase of 197 percent. Even more amazingly, the number of movies with spiritually uplifting, redemptive and/or Christian content increased from a mere 27 to 135 in 2002, an incredible 400 percent increase.

Not only that, but a recent study by MOVIEGUIDE¢ç reported in a recent press release and a recent White Paper, continued to show, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that movies with strong Christian, redemptive and moral content, year in and year out, earn much more money on average at the box office and in the video stores than movies with excessive sexual immorality, nudity, violence, vulgarity, and other anti-Christian content and worldviews.

Clearly, Hollywood has started to respond favorably to the demand for better, higher quality movies with positive moral and spiritual values. And, moviegoers and video buyers are starting to demonstrate their own desires for such good, quality entertainment.

Past films honored by the MOVIEGUIDE¢ç Awards include: "A Beautiful Mind," "I Am Sam," "Stuart Little," "Monsters, Inc." "The Princess Diaries," "Shrek," "The Prince of Egypt," "Spider-Man," and "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers."
